Valve releases Steam OS

There were continous rumours that Valve was up to something big that could potentially revolutionise PC gaming and it has finally come to pass today. Valve has released a Linux based Operating System called SteamOS in an attempt to centralise gaming in the PC world. The operating system is only designed to run Steam and some other video services as well and only a small portion of the games that are available now will be able to be used on this new OS due to the fact that are not compatible with Linux although Valve plans to counter this by allowing content to be streamed through the OS if you potentially have a gaming PC lying about the house. Thankfully for us gamers SteamOS is free but the machines that Valve will be offering them with will come at different prices, something Valve hasn’t really commented on yet. Valve has also announced the Steam controller to go along with the system and it will be compatible with every game that is available on Steam.

GTX 780, GTX 770 and GTX 760 Ti

NVIDIA are apparently getting ready to release the next generation GPU’s which are still based on Kepler GPU’s but will be clocked higher to offer an incentive for the consumers to buy them. The GTX 780 is worthy of note because it is the consumer version of the K20A/C and is suggested to be 30% faster than your average GTX 680. It’s also supposed to have more RAM as well then the GTX 680 but is lower then the 6GB available on the Titan.

The GTX 760 Ti is based on the GK104 225 chip and the GTX 750 Ti is also based on the GK104 chip and has a 256-bit memory interface which looks to be similar to the GTX 670 performance wise. The GTX 770 is based on a faster GK 104 425 chip which is also a 256 bit unit and the word is that this seems to be a rehash of the GTX 680, in addition to that manufacturers will develop their own boards and cooling but the stock cooling solution on the card will resemble the ones that have come out on the Titan and GTX 780.  So far the GTX 780 has seen the light of day but we should be getting ready to see more come out from NVIDIA soon, check out the video below showing an unboxing of the GTX 780 by LinusTechTips.
